Foreign Workers in Malaysia the government has launched an initiative to send workers who could not travel to Malaysia by May 31 last year. Under this program, a flight carrying 60 workers will depart for Malaysia on Tuesday.
According to the state-owned recruitment agency BOESL, these workers have been arranged jobs in Malaysia’s construction sector. A formal farewell ceremony has been organised for them at the airport.
BOESL sources said the flight will leave at 7:15pm and the workers are expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur around midnight.
Expatriates’ Welfare Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul is scheduled to see them off at the airport.
BOESL added that during the third Bangladesh–Malaysia Joint Working Group meeting held on May 21-22, the agency was tasked with sending 7,873 of the 17,777 workers who could not travel last year.
It was decided that only the construction and tourism sectors would receive workers.
On August 7, BOESL signed an agreement with the Construction Labour Exchange Centre Berhad to facilitate the recruitment. In the first phase, the Malaysian centre requested 500 workers.
Visas for 255 of them have already been issued, and all preparations to send them are complete.
A BOESL official said two more flights carrying 120 workers are scheduled for November 30 and December 2, with tickets already confirmed.
