Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan flooded after Ravi River overflows

Flooding from the overflowing Ravi River has impacted the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan, as well as the adjacent corridor. Due to the Ranjit Sagar Dam’s excessive water flow, the Ravi’s water level has increased.

The whole old gurdwara’s grounds, including the central area, were flooded to a depth of almost 10 feet, according to images posted by the Pakistani traveller account Travel with Waqas Haider.

Inderjit Singh, a worker at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, told The Jobs Govt Punjab on Wednesday that flooding in certain areas of the Ravi has reached the gurdwara’s inner sanctum, where water is allegedly four, five, or even six feet high.

He added that volunteers had been moved to the guest house and that, “by God’s grace, the Guru Granth Sahib is installed on the first floor and all the Guru’s sacred Birs are safe and being cared for.” Now access is blocked.

The only way to go to the upper levels is by boat because water is also spilling over the road,” Singh stated.
