PTA Warns Users: Unregistered Mobile Phones Face Immediate Blocking

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a fresh advisory urging mobile phone users across the country to stay cautious when purchasing unregistered or non-compliant devices, warning that such phones may face sudden blocking from all mobile networks.

In a statement, the authority reminded consumers that any device not registered under the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) remains at risk of disconnection at any time. PTA officials stressed that only fully verified and registered devices are permitted to operate on local networks.

Unregistered mobile phones are typically sold at lower prices because taxes and customs duties are not paid on them. Their affordability continues to attract budget-conscious buyers. However, PTA highlighted that these short-term savings often lead to long-term inconvenience. Besides the threat of immediate blocking, non-compliant devices may experience weak signals, dropped calls, poor messaging services, and unstable mobile data performance.

To avoid such complications, PTA has advised users to check the registration status of their devices by verifying the 15-digit IMEI number. The IMEI can be accessed by dialing #06# and then confirmed through the PTA website or by sending it to 8484 via SMS.

“Consumers should ensure their devices are properly registered to avoid service disruption and maintain seamless connectivity,” the statement emphasized. Officials added that adhering to national device regulations is a key part of responsible digital usage and helps protect users from unnecessary inconvenience and financial loss.
